Competition Training and Squad Training courses unique to Heritage Riding are structured to help riders advance their riding skills, essential for competing in the three disciplines of Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing.
Heritage Riding offers a variety of options for riders wishing to participate in EA or Inter High School Competition once they are capable.
Lessons at Heritage Riding are generally 30, 40 or 60 minutes in duration. Many of our young riders ride once a week, or up to 5 times a week depending on their training aspirations.
Heritage Riding teaches children from 5 years of age. Lessons are taught with patience, understanding, enthusiasm and firmness from their Instructor.
Group lessons consist of 2-6 riders of similar skill level. This allows each rider to receive social interaction and support from peers and each other. It also keeps things fun and interesting.
All riders, including those more advanced and experienced, are given an "Assessment Lesson" on their first visit to access the best way to progress with a program thereafter.
Squad Training is offered to children who have been riding for a period of time, and they have become competent on the Flat (Dressage) basics and started Jumping.
The School provides this program for those riders who wish to improve their riding and may go on to lease or purchase their own horse, and have an interest in competing in Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing.
This program involves Squad Training Days which consist of a lecture topic covering Stable Management or Riding Principles. As well as a riding lesson with our Chief Instructor, we are often lucky enough to bring in highly qualified coaches such as Olympian, Christopher Burton. This is a great opportunity for children to get a sound and excellent knowledge of the basics for their riding and training that is unique to Heritage Riding.
The opportunity to be trained by such highly qualified coaches especially to young inexperienced riders, is generally only available in Europe.
Squad Training camps are also offered every school holidays for 5 days of intense coaching in the three disciplines; Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing. This involves riding, lectures, and a competition is held at the end of the week.
The Squad members wear a special uniform, and this gives them prestige within the Riding School and team spirit amongst themselves.
Competition Training is offered at Heritage Riding, utilising some of the many well educated School Master Horses that Heritage Riding offers. We also offer training to clients on their own horses.
Heritage Riding offers a variety of options for riders wanting to participate in EA or Inter High School competition once they are capable.
We have a number of experienced competition horses/ponies available on a lease basis where a child or adult can have the sole supervised use of a particular horses, without having to purchase.
This is a good way to introduce the first step before (perhaps at a later date)going on to have horse ownership. Many of our competition riders have evolved through this process.
The advantages of this system is two-fold:
1. Your child establishes the commitment required for horse ownership or does not and you are not left with the responsibility of a horse/pony and a disinterested child.
2. If your child starts at a young age they will outgrow numerous equine friends in both skill and size over a period of time. Thus you are not collecting ponies like the family dog!!
If leasing sounds too involved and time consuming we also offer use of a competition horse/pony for EA or Interschool days. The three disciplines of Dressage, Showjumping and Eventing are taught by both Melanie and Rhianydd. Lessons are available with both Melanie Byrne, EA Level 2General, and British Horse Society Intermediate Instructor. As well as Rhianydd Davies, British Horse Society Intermediate Instructor.
Training is available to in-house clientele who train with us daily, so they are consistently supervised by a watchful eye from the ground. Outside clients can also bring their horses to Melanie to be coached on a weekly basis.
Heritage Riding follows the German Training System, which Melanie has trained under Edgar and Marianne Lichtwark for 20 years. This system has been followed in Germany and Europe by the "Old Masters" for many centuries.
The Training Scale of Education is taught from a young age to Squad Members, who then take it through their Competition Career having been given a correct and solid foundation.
This is as follows:
Heritage Riding can support you or your child competing in any age of the equestrian disciplines of Dressage, Showjumping or Eventing. We will transport horses to and from competitions, so you do not have to worry about horse transportation, and our staff will be there for the day to support and assist clients participating.
All our staff are fully qualified BHS or EA Instructors, and we have visiting International Coaches. One of these visiting coaches is Olympian, Christopher Burton.
